Facial cleansing devices: we’ve tested one for 10 days, here’s the lowdown on how it worked

Honestly, it’s been years since these gadgets have been around, devices that are supposed to help you with skin cleansing. It’s a simple story: the treatment is more effective and goes deeper than anything you can accomplish manually with makeup removers or detergents. The results are visible in the medium/long run and your skin will be healthier, too. Sounds great, right? Indeed it does, and we couldn’t just sit on our hands. So, as a beauty editor I felt involved, and decided to do something about it. After checking out the market for the latest releases, I chose Clarisonic Mia Fit, one of the newcomers, actually. The famous geek brush for facial cleansing revamped its look, becoming a lot more compact, and its performance is said to be amazing. I tried to use it for 10 days, here is what happened.

Day 1. suddenly it seems like I just found a way to turn something simple into a very complicated process. What I could do before with a detergent and my very own hands, now needs: a battery charger, a Clarisonic, detergent, and my hands — spoiler alert: you always will need those. Clarisonic MiaFit has two settings. One is for making a light cleaning in just 60 seconds, and the other one is for 80 seconds, during which your neck’s skin also gets cleaned. I decide to use the first setting in the morning and the second in the evening. In my head it all makes sense, but to be honest, I feel it could be done randomly too, the only difference seems to be the timing, while the device’s movement doesn’t seem to be changing. At first glance, though, I can also notice that my skin seems very smooth right after treatment, and also particularly ready to absorb all the goodness I’m going to apply onto it during my beauty routine.

Day 3. Here we are, for our first terrible reality check. It’s very hard to remember to use Clarisonic, especially while travelling. I remember to take it with me to Puglia at the last minute, just by chance — it’s waterproof, which means I can also use it in the shower. It’s very pleasant to use it after a day of exposure to sunshine and wind, the device head always gives very pleasant self-massage. If I check my skin in the mirror, I can still notice some small flaws, but all in all, my skin seems a lot better. Is it the product, or the holiday, I wonder?

Day 7. I feel like a total expert by now, I can predict changes in vibration — those are there to tell the user when to move the MiaFit on a different part of your face — and I don’t think I want to give up on this tech-cuddle. I don’t use it to remove my makeup, as I don’t want to clog up the head and then have to wash it, it makes me uneasy. But the small brush is just perfect for the second, deeper cleansing phase, the deepest one!

Day 10. I am a total convert. I’m not sure I will remember to use it every night, and I’m not sure I’ll get tired of it soon — beauty editors are easily corrupted by new releases on the market — but this gadget has definitely passed my test, that’s for sure. It makes you feel so relaxed while cleansing your skin, it makes you feel like you are at the spa, or having a luxury salon treatment. It’s nice to be able to treat yourself at home, too! The skin on my face seems more relaxed and smooth, with less flaws, and I don’t even feel like I need to scrub it because it feels so incredibly soft to the touch. Clarisonic is obviously no miracle worker but still, the blood flow in the small vessels on my face is definitely better than before, so these guys know what they’re talking about, when they mention good effects in the medium/long run.
