In 1962 Roger Scemama created a brooch for Saint Laurent in the shape of an asymmetric heart inlaid with red gem stones. It would accompany Saint Laurent forever like a talisman – while Yves would retain no other piece of jewellery from one collection to the next, he kept this heart.
