The European football championships are not over yet and we still don’t know which is the best team from the old continent, but the entire world (not just the sporting world) has already decreed that the player of the year is: Iceland’s captain Aron Gunnarsson. Nicknamed the Viking, Aron has succeeding in capturing everyone’s attention, not just because he’s led his own team in a mammoth task (to think that Iceland has never reached the finals of such an important tournament) but his rugged looks, which has little to do with his commanding behaviour on the field. What’s made us fall in live with him? We’ll explain it in five short points. First of all for his tenderness after the game with Portugal when Gunnarsson asked the multi award-winning Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt and was snubbed. Second: his tenacity and physical strength in stopping his opponents. Third: the festive dance he organized with his team after their historic win against England, a joy also for the non-Icelandic, because it was a kind of Haka in honor of his fans. Fourth: for him being hopelessly in love with his girlfriend, who he always goes to kiss in the stands after each match. And fifth: seeing as looks do matter, for his bad boy appeal with his red beard and tattoos, which we like a lot. Unfortunately Island loss to France yesterday but their magical feelings and fair play still alive in all the competitions. After all, how can we not dedicate our MCM to a sportsman that makes a difference in the ever-aggressive and overbearing world of football? What do you say, have we convinced you? Are you also a fan of Aron Gunnarsson the Viking?
