He’s not an actor, nor is he a singer, nor a model. Still, Nicolas Loufrani is really the man of our dreams, because he did something that really revolutionized the way we communicate: he created emojis! This 46-year-old Frenchman lives in London, and his adventure started after his father, Franklin Loufrani, registered the Smiley brand, which he had used for years for commentary in the sports section on French daily France Soir. Nicolas thought it would be a good idea to add more smileys to the collection, and create emojis that could be used on smartphones. The first emojis for iPhone were released in Japan in 2007, and shortly after that, they were released worldwide, to become people’s favorite way to communicate. The music and fashion industry and many artists really enjoyed working with Smileys: think of Nirvana’s merchandising, Moschino and Katy Perry. After all, an image can express so much more than words can! Especially if it makes writing easier. So, what better way to demonstrate this than writing an interview using emoticons? Here it is!
