The Blonde Salad meets… Caro Daur

She’s only 23 years old, but she’s one of the hottest Instagram fashion sensations, thanks to an account with more than 1,7 million followers. Caro Daur is the ultimate fashion icon to follow and to get inspiration from, not only for her amazing looks but also for her authenticity and irony. An explosive mix that helped her to become Mac and Fendi’s fave influencer, and a good friend for celebrities like our dearest Chiara Ferragni. If you want to discover everything about her, don’t miss our interview.

Sometimes it’s not so easy to define someone who works in the digital world. Is there a word that really expresses what you do?

I never liked the words influencer or blogger, since I think these words put you immediately in a box. Working in digital marketing, I’m experiencing so many differents roles, especially because I don’t have a team. I’m basically doing tasks of a travel agent, an assistant, an account, a stylist, a creative director… I like to name myself entrepreneur, because it expresses that you built your own business in a creative and unique way. I feel like all the other words have a bad connotation. In the next years I would love to start acting.  I already did theatre for 4 years when I was younger and I loved it.

Which was your dream job when you were a kid? Is it close to what you’re doing right now?

When I was young I wanted to be an opera singer or an actress. Unfortunately, I can’t sing! However, I always wanted to work in the entertainment industry. I’ve always loved fashion and had a business-oriented mind. I think that now in our world it is a combination of it together. So yes, what I do right now goes in the direction of my dream job, definitely.

What did you expect when you opened your Instagram account and launched your blog? Would you ever imagine such a great success?

Honestly, never ever! I downloaded Instagram without knowing that there was such a great power behind it. I just did it for fun, actually. I always loved to take pictures and to entertain people. Over a couple of time my account grew. It shows a mix between my passion for fashion and just my personality.

You usually say you’re your own manager. Can you tell us something about your daily work routine?

Every morning I check my e-mails and make some phone calls. I read contracts, coordinate my flights, hotels or drivers, I prepare my media kit, I write invoices… I do all the back office work by myself. I do meetings, I see PRs and also I talk to brands about creative ideas. I don’t live for Instagram, I try to take Instagram with me. I try to make it organic and easy, but I also like to meet photographers and shoot for creative projects. When I’m on set for an editorial photo shoot all day, in between hair and makeup, I open my laptop and try to do everything at the same time. That is sometimes my big weakness. I should try to focus more on one thing.

Three words to describe yourself.

It’s so hard to find the best words: I would say empathetic, ambitious and indecisive.

From your posts and stories you look so genuine and authentic, and in these days it’s not so easy to stay true to yourself. Which is your secret?

I think it’s important to have genuine family and friends like I always had. I always go back to my small village after traveling to crazy places like New York or London. My friends and family treat me the same way and I don’t see myself as a different person. I’m super normal! I studied business, I did so many student jobs like anybody else… It’s very important to stay true to yourself and live in the moment. It’s quite difficult sometimes, but I think it’s very important. The environment you live in reflects your own behavior.

2018 has been an amazing year for you. Can you tell us 3 events, partnerships or projects you’re going to remember for the rest of your life?

First of all the partnership with Mac: being the face of a global campaign was absolutely amazing. It was crazy to see my face all around the world, in stores and airports! I would never forget my photoshoot with Peter Lindbergh for Douglas. Being on set with icons like Amber Valletta and Alexa Chung, surrounded by a big crew… it was great. He’s such an authentic, humble, cool, down to earth man. I’ll also always remember my trip to Tokyo with Bally: I met amazing people, and Tokyo is such a beautiful city.

Can you tell us some spoilers about your 2019?

I did a really cool project with Fendi coming out in February. It’s a short video and it’s such a cool project. I’m so excited because a fashion icon is involved, as well.

You’re a fashion icon for the Instagram generation. Which are your fave brands right now?

It’s so hard! I love The Row, Fendi, Marni, Haider Ackermann, Versace, Cartier, Bulgari… Sometimes I love to wear androgynous, clean shapes, sometimes I think it’s super nice to wear a more feminine outfit. Prada is in my heart as well: it’s always special, inspiring, different in a sophisticated and classy way.

You and Chiara Ferragni get along so well during fashion weeks and events… what do you think about her?

I think Chiara is a role model. She was a pioneer in this movement, she created an empire with a big team, she is doing a job with all her passion. She’s so sweet, humble and down to earth. She has an amazing energy and is a really good person with a very big heart.

Chiara is a huge supporter of female empowerment and the power of supporting each other. As a woman, what message would you love to send to all the girls that consider you a role model?

Supporting each other is one of the most important things. I love the word altruism, I think it’s so important to help and support the others without thinking about what we can have in return. As a woman, I always try to do that, to stay true to myself and to communicate: without speaking out loud, we can’t change circumstances.

In these weeks everyone is talking about #10yearchallenge. We don’t want to talk about the past, but to look forward. How do you see yourself in the next ten years?

Actually, I’m living for the moment and I appreciate it so much. Of course, I dream like everyone, but right now I’m so happy about what I’m doing that I would be happy if I could still do the same in the next ten years. I would love to act, and also to be more involved in the fashion industry, for example with my own brand. Let’s see!
