What does it mean to be off work and school? There can be a billion answers to that questions, because pretty much each of us gives it a different meaning. For some, it means partying every day, for others, laying in the sun, others yet explore European capitals, and finally: some just want to lie down and relax! If you belong to this final category, this post is for you: there is no better time to fully immerse yourself in the best TV shows of the year. Whether you do it on the beach, in the shade, or at home with the AC blasting, now is the time to catch up with friends and coworkers by watching all those series you’ve heard them talk about. Here are 10: have your pick!
- Santa Clarita’s Diet. Set in quiet Santa Clarita, California, this is the story of a married couple; the wife, Sheila, suddenly changes her diet, due to… becoming a zombie!
- Glow. This brand new TV show revolves around a group of girls who know how to battle on the ring! It’s set in the 80s and the story will capture you from the first minute; you’ll be done with the entire series within a week. A lot of fun even though it touches on some very serious topics.
-
The Young Pope. Mix Paolo Sorrentino’s directing genius and Jude Law’s talent as an actor and what do you have? A TV series that will keep you watching breathlessly throughout. The story is about a young American pope who is as innovating as he is strict. An arrogant, flirty pope… who’ll make you fall in love.
- Gypsy. Naomi Watts is the protagonist of this Netflix-produced TV series. She has a perfect life and her career in psychology is going well, until she starts getting involved in dangerous relationships with people in her patients’ lives… a complex story with many guaranteed coup de theatre!
- Big Little Lies. The impressive cast (Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon star in this TV series, just to mention a couple) alone would be worth watching the entire show. Big Little Lies was the revelation of 2017; it’s the story of three friends whose lives are changed forever by a brutal murder on trivia night at their children’s school. Want to know more? You’ll have to watch the series!
- Iron Fist. It looks like this is the year of superheroes – but the other reason to watch this series is that the main actor, Finn Jones, has been our MCM! The story is straightforward: after being away for a few years, Danny Rand is back in town to fight villains.
-
Jane The Virgin. The story of a young woman who is virgin, Catholic, and righteous, and who becomes the accidental “victim” of artificial insemination. You’ll laugh so much you’ll get abs!
- Legion. The much awaited TV series after the comics by the same title; it’s all about the X-Men, but with a new, unseen approach (and no want of special effects). Feel like sci fi and superhoroes? This is the TV show for you.
-
The Handmaid’s Tale. Set in an unspecified time which could easily be the present, this show is not afraid to touch on some very delicate themes, such as misogyny and slavery. Some scenes are really tough to watch, but the story is enthralling. We want to know want you think about it!
- Feud – Bette and Joan. This TV series goes by a new title for every season and each season is completely unrelated to the previous one. In this, it is similar to American Horror Story, and in fact they share the same director, Ryan Murphy. This season is set in the 60s and the story revolves around the famous professional rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. An interesting show that never disappoints, plus Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon alone would make it worth watching!
