MFW Fashion Shows Day 2

Let’s relive and analyze together the SS 21 presentations of our favorite brands on the second day of this Milan Fashion Week. Are you ready to discover the favorite looks of our Chiara Ferragni?

PRADA

Digital debut for the newborn team formed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. One thing must certainly be said, the show’s all-digital design is undoubtedly one of the most avant-garde seen so far during this MFW. Already a few days before the show on Prada’s Instagram profile, the message “If you could ask a question to Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons about their first show what would you ask?”. A whole new way to involve the public in this unusual twinning, to which the two designers would then answer with a press conference 2.0 after the show. And we certainly did not miss the conference! Surely, putting themselves at the service of the huge social audience was rather smart, the two were able to explain to a very wide audience the whys and how of this collaboration but not only, after a period of forced stop they were also able to give their own point of view on the panorama that lies ahead for the fashion universe. Now we would have a question though: are you sure you have achieved the perfect balance between your Miuccia and Raf stylistic codes? The feeling watching the show, probably deliberate, is that there is a lot of Raf inside this new SS 21 collection, obscuring, perhaps, the Prada’s iconic style. The textures and patterns are definitely those of Simons, even the Prada logo has been adapted to this new entrance, this time becoming large and, perhaps a little imposing, on prints with an industrial and streetwear mood. There are certainly some cuts from Prada: corollas midi skirts on tight-fitting Gruyere pullovers and kitten heels, almost unique protagonists of the entire shoe line. The two designers declared that they wanted to create an essential collection made of basic pieces that last over time. The longevity of garments is a post-pandemic topic that seems to have become even more dear to Miuccia, who spoke about sustainability and change during the conference. The result of all this is a clean cut to the superfluous decorations: the blouses are sleeveless and the straight trousers, the overcoats take up the Prada nylon re-edition line and the suits are in fleece. The mood of the entire collection, with the exception of the skirts, is very androgynous, which is why the man probably did not walk the runway, and the colors are all about optical white and black, with some hints of green, yellow and red. The outcome of this first show? We still have to think about it.

ETRO

For this SS 21 collection Etro has chosen to celebrate the Italian summer, interpreted as a synonym of joy, happiness and roots. Perhaps fresh from the summer just passed, Veronica Etro, designer of the brand’s women’s line, has chosen to return to its origins by enhancing the charm of the Riviera style and the artistic and cultural heritage of the brand’s cradle. An unprecedented nautical theme was the red thread of the entire collection represented by motifs of ropes, marine chains, anchors, shells and stripes. A new protagonist has also been added, the Pegaso-Tritone, which becomes the logo of T-shirts and cropped sweaters. A return to origins also symbolized by the archive scarves combined with the iconic paisley motif revisited in a monochromatic key. The mood is generally linked to the 90s fashion with Bermuda shorts combined with printed bustiers and light twill jackets but also turned-up jeans worn with tight and hyper feminine swimsuits. Bikinis and skirts have retro shapes, more related to 1950s fashion, as if to enhance a return to the femininity of the past, symbolized by waist belts of ropes and chains. The color palette plays on maritime combinations of red and blue, combined with sorbet tones such as lime yellow, turquoise, orange, lavender and mint green. The accessories? Maxi straw bags and printed canvas tote bags to lose your head

GCDS

Giuliano Calza‘s idea for this SS 21 deserves a standing ovation. The all-digital show left even the most critics speechless. When we say everything digital, we mean everything, including celebrities, models and CLOTHES. GCDS once again proved to be brilliant and more avant-garde than any of its other competitors. In fact, the brand traveled with the imagination, parading in an exceptional location that recalls the places of ancient Egypt. The collection made up of low-waisted trousers, bare bellies, provocative swimsuits and single-color suits cat-walked worn by avatars made with the technological aid on the models in flesh and blood that we would have seen on the catwalk. To applaud it a front-row made, also in this case, of avatars of celebrities who are fond of the brand including Chiara Ferragni, Fedez, Dua Lipa, Anwar Hadid, Amina Muaddi, Gilda Ambrosio, Giorgia Tordini and many others. “Out Of This World“, this is the name of the collection, was decidedly sensational and decided to focus much more on communication and the meaning of contemporary fashion, stealing the show from the garments that, in any case, we are sure you will not see the time to go and admire. Enjoy this show!
