Milano Design Week: Louis Vuitton at Garage Traversi with Objets Nomades

Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades is a collection of ingenious, creative furniture and functional objects that, since 2012, has expanded to accommodate the creations of an increasingly large number of famous international design names. The creative starting point is the “Art of travel“, heritage of the Maison for over 160 years and reinterpretation of its essential spirit, each Objet Nomade is the expression of a unique combination of designer creativity and the unparalleled savoir-faire of Louis Vuitton.

The new objects will be the protagonists of the fifth edition of the exhibition to celebrate the ten years of the collection “Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades” in Milan, on the occasion of the Design Week 2022, in the space Garage Traversi, A wonderful example of rationalist architecture and historic place for the Milanese tradition, designed by Architect Giuseppe de Min, which after twenty years of inactivity, is returned to the city of Milan completely renovated.

Among the novelties, the Merengue pouf by the Campana brothers in three colours together with Aguacade, an ultra coloured and modular screen; the Petal Chair by Marcel Wanders studio with its organic structure similar to a tree; the Cosmic Table by Raw Edges with its innovative carbon fiber base and ice-like glass top; the Totem Lumineux by Studio Louis Vuitton, an elegant tower of colored Murano glass spheres; the new seats in precious leather Belt Stool and Belt Lounge Chair by Atelier Oï; the Signature Armchair & Sofa, with graceful and fluid arches, inspired by the terraced fields in China and the rocky formations of the desert in the USA, designed by Frank Chou, The last designer to join the project Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades, are also the first specially designed for outdoor furniture and are covered in a fabric from the bright color “Brio” of the Italian brand Paola Lenti.

To celebrate Louis Vuitton’s Art de Vivre, Atelier Oï’s delicious leather Origami flowers will also be on display in the Louis Vuitton flower kiosk in the heart of Milan, and just a few steps away, the newsstand will exhibit the City Guide necklaces, Travel Book and Fashion Eye published by the Maison.

As part of the traditional research of nomadic architecture, which has characterized the previous editions of Milan Design Week, Louis Vuitton exhibits, for the first time in Milan, in Piazza San Babila, Nova House, a nomadic micro architecture designed in 1972 by architects Michel Hudrisier and M. Roma for Studio Rochel. Published in very few examples, this innovative modular accommodation is emblematic of the perspective architecture of the 70s.

The Nova House has the shape of a bubble covered by an aluminum shell. The structure of the arches is made of galvanized steel tubes, bolted to a base. The outer shell consists of 180 aluminium blades, specially patented for the project, which follow the ovoid shape of the structure. The nomadic architectures that Louis Vuitton presented during the previous exhibitions are the Temporary Paper Structure by Shigeru Ban (2019), the Hexacube by George Candilis (2018), the Futuro House by Matti Suuronen (2017) and La Maison au Bord de l’Eau by Charlotte Perriand (2015).

The passion for literature and for the transmission of publishing culture made it natural for Louis Vuitton to give life to the international and itinerant project of the “librairie éphémère”. Iconic and characteristic places of the world’s cities come to life thanks to the incredibly lively and cosmopolitan spirit of the Louis Vuitton travel editions.

Starting from Paris with the famous Bouquinistes of the Rive Gouche of Saint Gemain on the occasion of the Photo Festival, passing through the West Bund in Shanghai on the occasion of Art Fair, the project “librairie éphémère” arrives in Milan for its second Italian stop after Venice.

Starting from June 6, for a week, the newsstand in Piazza San Babila will host, in addition to the usual sale of newspapers and magazines, the complete collection of Louis Vuitton Travel Book, Fashion Eye and City Guide. Experts Louis Vuitton, will accompany the newsagents, to introduce visitors to the discovery of the Maison’s travel necklaces.
