Cartoon fashion returns to impose ultra-colourful graphics and kawaii characters on the Fall Winter 2020 catwalks. Spring Summer has already been characterized by the Gucci Mickey Mouse-shaped couture bag and by sets of Pokémon sweaters and shoes by GCDS.
Certainly, the nostalgic charm that cartoon characters can exert on fashion addicts is big, and we already know that it will be difficult to resist ultra-cute accessories and neon-coloured prints with bold contours proposed by designers.
Prada, for example, has chosen to portray Mary Shelley’s story of Frankenstein in a toon version, and the imaginary monster appears on skirts, sweaters and dresses in shades of pink and purple, while Moschino catches the most beloved long-haired elves of the Nineties, the Troll Dolls, to embroider them on sweaters in fluorescent colors.
Micro-prints with cartoon graphics run the catwalk for Lanvin and Thom Browne, in contrast to the psychedelic and Seventies ones by Mary Katrantzou, which recall the graphics of Ravensburger puzzles.
Chiara Ferragni Collection throws itself into the kawaii and super colourful world of manga with a co-ord suit of trousers, crop-tops and bomber jackets, sported by our Chiara in Tokyo.
To go beyond the prints are instead Loewe, which creates an Elephant cap with of ears and proboscis, and Vivetta, which goes to the next step of the ‘toon trend, that is to say the 100% childish-chic style, with a coat entirely covered with teddy bears.
In short, the return to childhood and enthusiasm for everything that awakens fun and tenderness seems to be definitively back in fashion.
