We’re Not Really Strangers X Valentino

Stumbling into urban poems or quotes hanging on the walls is an activity, lately, practiced on Instagram at a competitive level. The concrete gap that has been distancing people for the past year has, fortunately, corresponded to a tendency to be closer and more connected, even metaphorically, on social media. One strengthens each other and puts the purest, most true and fragile version of themselves online … on Instagram they would say “Thank you for loving me when I didn’t feel lovable“. Fashion brands are the first to want to bridge this gap, trying to get closer to their audience not with trendy clothes and accessories, but with the heart. Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino did just that, thanks to the collaboration with Koreen Odiney, founder of We’re Not Really Strangers.

The iconic posts of We’re Not Really Strangers, made of road signs with messages of self-esteem or cards that recite urban poems, have become the subject of an artistic liaison aimed at spreading a universal message that we could summarize with “It’s okay to not be okay “. Tripping, making mistakes, getting up is inextricably human for everyone and does not make us undeserving of love, this is the message from Valentino to its audience in such a different moment.

The reel where the quote “Thank you for loving me when I didn’t feel lovable” is unrolled, as we anticipated before, is among the most shared on the web, together with the real protagonist of this collaboration: a 25 card game that looks like riddles , designed to establish a deep and intimate dialogue between the participants. A restoration of the authenticity of human relationships, which gave life to this Valentino Box that promises to be a sold out. The card game is available starting this week in a select network of Valentino boutiques around the world. Koreen Odiney, therefore, seems to have found the communication key for a sincere dialogue loved by the people of the web, but who is she?

Founder of We’re Not Really Strangers, the account of more than 3 million followers, Koreen is a 25-year-old Israeli girl who grew up in Los Angeles. As a teenager, she tells of having suffered from anxiety and depression, and this often led her to ask questions to her mother, who, however, answered in Hebrew. So she began to ask her questions about her to friends, teachers, and eventually strangers. At 21, Koreen began her career as a photojournalist and model in Los Angeles, and on one of her trips to New York she began conversing with a stranger in Central Park, who at the end of the conversation dismissed her with a “We’re Not Really Strangers! ” Hence Koreen’s idea of creating an Instagram account with the questions that tormented her soul, hoping they would serve as a connection for everyone. And her intuition was correct, the page in a very short time created a real world of fans, to the point that she wanted to take on an iconic style: print quotes on glossy red cards to share. Cards, today, have become the first card game in the world aimed at deepening relationships between people.
