WHAT IS HAPPENING TO CÉLINE DION ?
A few days ago, Céline Dion shared a video on her official Instagram account, a moving account in which she spoke – for the first time – about her illness and announced the cancellation of all her previously postponed upcoming concerts. The singer is in fact suffering from a syndrome known as Stiff-Person Syndrome. Specifically, it is a rare neurological disorder, a particular condition responsible for very painful muscle spasms. To date, there is no known cure for this syndrome, also known as Moersch-Woltman.
“I have always been an open book,” Dion announces in her video message. “Before now I wasn’t ready to talk about it. But now I am.”

This disorder has all the characteristics of an autoimmune disease, affecting the central nervous system and causing increased sensitivity to noise, touch and emotional discomfort. This disorder affects the musculoskeletal system – the one in which people have a significant amount of pain – through spasms that can affect any muscle within the body. Posture stiffens and all this does nothing but affect every aspect of the sufferer’s daily life.
In the specific case of Céline Dion, it is also difficult for her to use her vocal cords. However, we know that a team of experts will help her to achieve a kind of normality again, keeping holistic treatment at the forefront of the treatment of this rare condition.
