The Blonde Salad meets… Bianca Balti

There are only a few top models in the world who have made names for themselves. Bianca Balti, for sure, is one of them. After walking on the catwalks for famous fashion brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, Balmain, and Off-White, being featured on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, becoming L’Oréal muse and experiencing cinema and television, her next goal is to be successful also with her new brand Bianca Balti Collection… and an awesome mother for her girls, Matilde and Mia. Discover what the beautiful Italian supermodel told The Blonde Salad in this interview!

You are a top model, a designer, but also one of the most followed Italian celebrities on Instagram, with more than 1 million followers, and an awesome mother. Which is the word that really defines who you are?

The word that best describes me is “woman” because it includes all my qualities: a mother, a lover, a “caregiver” (she laughs), a worker, an organizer, but also a driver (for my kids) and a chef. Without being a hard worker, I couldn’t be able to be the best mum in the world for my daughters, and vice-versa.

When you were a little girl, you wanted to become…

When I was a kid I loved to be always in the spotlight. I loved acting, singing, being on stage, in front of an adoring audience. I used to imagine my future life full of success, even if I really didn’t know the meaning of this word. My middle school years definitely downsized my unbridled enthusiasm!

You’re one of the most famous Italian top models in the world: your name Bianca is enough to understand who we are talking about. Which is, in your opinion, the secret of your success?

A mix of luck, hard work, and humbleness. Regarding this quality, I think that many models underestimate it, but many clients appreciate it a lot.

Walking the runway, posing on set… Which is the best part of this job?

I love the excitement of runway shows, but I hate the never-ending waits in the backstage. I love to film commercials and to see my face on screen!

Three words to describe yourself.

Unique, resilient, generous.

You’re one of the most followed Italian celebrities on Instagram, where you often share your everyday life. What do you love to share with your fanbase?

I only share special moments, like the ones I spend with my girls and my friends. I have a very ordinary and busy life, I think I wouldn’t have anything really interesting to post every day. Let’s see: healthy breakfast wearing pajamas and glasses? Driving to school listening to cartoons’ soundtracks? Sweat training?

According to you, which are the pros and cons of being exposed on social media?

I have no choice but to have Instagram, to post and to raise my follower base for my job. These days, social networks and posts are part of our work agreements. I must be honest: I don’t think I will use them if it wouldn’t be necessary for my job. Anyway, I appreciate Instagram’s positive power to spread important messages all over the world.

You’re a mother of two beautiful daughters, who sometimes are featured in your posts and stories. Their generation is growing up with social networks, that sometimes can show their harmful side. What are you teaching them about it?

My family raised me with many prohibitions. With my daughters, I try to be more permissive. Matilde isn’t on Instagram but she loves to play on Musically, where she can stay connected to all her friends around the world. Every generations experience their potential dangers, they change time after time. I think it’s important to let children to express their passions and to have fun in the activities they love. We should let them know they’re loved unconditionally, and help them to develop self-confidence and a strong attitude.

What would you like them to learn from their mother’s job?

First of all, modeling is a respectable job. If they will ever decide to take this path, I would like they could take this experience seriously, because it’s a great opportunity that shouldn’t be wasted. There are so many beautiful girls, but only the most professional ones go on.

You and Chiara Ferragni are part of an Italian community living in Los Angeles. How did you meet?

Having dinner at Soho House in West Hollywood. My friend Valentina Micchetti, as a good PR, organized our meeting. We met a few days later by ourselves and we got along so well. My daughter Mia, a few days ago, asked me where my “friend with a baby in her tummy” was! Chiara spends most of her time in Milan  now and we really miss her here in Los Angeles.

What do you like about her?

I appreciate her dedication in everything she does. Moreover, she persisted believing in what she loves. Every time I see her, I think I would be exhausted being always all around the world, surrounded by people, looking good and sharing my life on social media. Chiara really loves what she does, and she manages it in such a spontaneous and enthusiastic way I can’t help but admire and envy her.

You just launched your brand Bianca Balti Collection. How did this idea come to you?

I created Bianca Balti Collection because I wanted to design dresses that could adapt to every woman in every phase of their lives. I really felt the need for maternity dresses that could be fun, young and luxurious, that’s why I decided to fill this “gap” in the market. My goal is to be recognized one day as a pioneer who created a brand for all the women who don’t want to wear ugly jersey clothes during their pregnancy.

You spend most of your time in Los Angeles now. Why are you so in love with California? Did you decide to live here also for professional reasons?

I live in Los Angeles 24/7, I even spent my summer and Christmas holidays here! California has always been a dream to me because I love sun, sea, relax but also action. It’s been an instinctive decision, guided by my heart, and it’s leading my professional future: the entire production of Bianca Balti Collection is 100% made in Los Angeles.

Like many other celebrities, you took part to #10yearschallenge on Instagram as well. Let’s look at the future: how would you love to see yourself in ten years?

A minute of silence to think about the fact that I’ll be 44 years old. Ouch! (she laughs) In ten years, I see myself wise: a woman that has probably experienced more than other women of her age, but who fiercely wears her war wounds. I see my self with a 22 years-old girl and a 13 years-old kid, ouch! But also with two more babies. I see myself peaceful, free from the emotional chaos of the youth. Finally, I will enjoy that peaceful feeling that comes from self-knowledge.
