The moment of the post-COVID-19 rebirth has also arrived for the dandy Etro. The brand took its fashion show this morning, July 15th, in Milan and live for the first time since the lockdown! The SS 2021 men’s collection and the women’s resort are on the catwalk as if to demonstrate that the genderfluid transition towards which prêt-à-porter is heading seems to be increasingly concrete. The gardens of the Four Seasons Hotel hosted the first digital edition of Milan Fashion Week, with an audience, albeit limited, excited by the spectacle of what in its small way can be called rebirth. The brand has taken all the necessary precautions by paying homage to the guests with sanitizing gels and designer masks and has pampered and moved them with live music in tribute to the great maestro Ennio Morricone, who has just passed away.
The discovery of a new authenticity is the common thread followed by Kean and Veronica Etro, who underlined, in a press release issued by the brand, how important is the concept of family for Etro, expressed by real clothes for real people, eliminating once again the barriers between the fashion world and its audience. The object of the collection is travel, what we missed most in this pandemic period, conceived this time with a new meaning that sees it as a moment that enriches experiences and memories, regardless of destination. But what will be the Etro news for the next SS 2021? The paisley is obviously inevitable, this time combined with equally iconic patterns such as stripes, used above all on oversized shirts, and Madras squares on unstructured suits for the men’s line and on fluttering dresses with a typically gipsy flavour for the female resort. The Etro woman of next Summer is bohemian and light, she does not wear heels but low sandals in leather or raffia. Outerwear is made by men’s blazers revisited in unprecedented femininity, together with beautiful frayed reindeer jackets.
To complete the look, some archival pieces for the men’s tailored suits, such as ties, or jacquard cardigans worn with maxi pleated skirts and belts for the woman. The details are cared for and precious, embroidered on denim shirts and oversized jackets, or on allover prints such as floral camouflage or graphic patchwork. The fabrics all respect the eco-friendly direction was recently taken by the brand: some are obtained from the recycling of archival materials or plastic bottles, while other garments reuse vintage fabrics or original materials such as eucalyptus yarns used for shirts. Even the accessories follow the typical comfort line of the travel idea: document holders around the neck, maxi folding bags and sunglasses. The latter is the result of the brand’s latest collab with Carrera, which created for Etro a line of colourful shades with a typically 80’s soul. In short, if it is true that starting on the right foot is fundamental, Etro has undoubtedly opened the doors to a more than satisfactory future.
