Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, as many of you already know, are a celebrated Dutch-American photography duo, best known for their fashion and advertising shoots that have graced the pages of many internationally renowned fashion magazines and the campaigns of many prestigious fashion houses around the world. Moreover, in addition to their fashion work, they also produce independent artworks that have been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions.
Beginning their collaboration in 1986, Inez & Vinoodh have carried out numerous collaborative projects and participated in many major group exhibitions. They currently live in New York with their son Charles Star Matadin.
The two photographers met at the “Fashion Academy Vogue” in Amsterdam, where both had initially studied fashion design: Inez from 1981 to 1985 and Vinoodh from 1983 to 1985. Later, Inez earned a master’s degree in photography from the “Gerrit Rietveld Academie” (1985-1990), while Vinoodh founded the Lawina clothing line with his classmate Rick Bovendeert. And just like that… the opportunity to photograph the 1986 Lawina collection led Vinoodh to work with Inez, for the first time. However, the Lawina brand closed in 1990, when Inez graduated and the two began working as independent artists.
On the occasion of the Met Gala 2023, the photography duo of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin took incredible photo shoots during the evening. In particular, they decided to pay homage to the theme of the event, which was entirely dedicated to the creative flair of Karl Lagerfeld, by capturing – in black and white – all the celebrities strictly in Chanel.

Among the many world-class guests who walked the event’s red carpet, the duo captured Chanel’s current creative director Virginie Viard, along with rapper Kendrick Lamar, K-Pop star Jennie, supermodel Naomi Campbell, actress Margot Robbie singer Dua Lipa, Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, young actress Whitney Peak, iconic model Gisele Bündchen, the talented Margaret Qualley, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi, director Sofia Coppola, actress Kristen Stewart, and Belgian singer Angèle.
Inez & Vinoodh were able to capture the essence of each personality, capturing emotions, expressions, but most importantly the clothes as only they are able to do. Thanks to their experience and artistic sensibility, they turned each shot into a unique work of art, able to reflect values such as elegance, strength and beauty.
