Happy birthday Marilyn Monroe: what are her best movies to watch?

Today, to celebrate the beginning of June, we pay tribute to a very great timeless icon of the film world: Marilyn Monroe. June 1, you know, we celebrate the birthday of this great diva who unfortunately left us too soon. However, stainless remain her iconic films, her unforgettable performances and her ability to enchant even with a single glance. Whether it was her famous fluttering dress in the scene of “The Seven Year Itch,” her performance in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” or her infectious smile in “Some Like It Hot,” every moment Marilyn gave on the big screen became a piece of film history. Her performances left an indelible imprint on the collective imagination and continue to this day to be a source of continuous inspiration.

Marilyn, as a symbol of freedom and authenticity, defied many adversities, conquered the world of show business, and broke boring social patterns. Her life and career, have been an overwhelming journey of light and shadow. All this makes this great icon always alive, as well as eternally fascinating.

Among the most successful films, who does not remember “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”? In this 1953 classic Marilyn played Lorelei Lee, the explosive blonde with a heart of gold. In this film she enchanted us by giving us one of the most famous musical numbers of all time, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” And then there is 1955’s “The Seven Year Itch,” a film that made history. But Marilyn is not just glamour. In 1951’s “Love Nest,” we got to see her sweeter, more romantic side. Playing a young bride, Marilyn demonstrated a versatility that went far beyond her breathtaking beauty. Then, in the 1953 thriller “Niagara,” she held our breath with her performance. And what about 1957’s “The Prince and the Showgirl?” This film gave us the wonderful collaboration between Marilyn Monroe and Sir Laurence Olivier. Their on-screen chemistry was irresistible from the first moment. We then conclude with the 1952 psychological thriller “Don’t Bother to Knock,” a film in which the actress explored a dark and mysterious side of her versatility as an actress, once again demonstrating her extraordinary talent.

Every Marilyn Monroe film is almost like a journey into her unique universe. Every performance, every smile, every look transports us to her eternal greatness. Today — on her birthday — we note how much her beauty, charisma and talent will continue to enchant future generations for a very long time to come.
