PRINCESSES AND INFLUENCERS, WHEN YOUNG NOBLES BECOME FASHION STARS

Before socialites and it-girls with a long bob cut there were princesses and queens who have conquered the imagination of generations and generations of women. Starting from the era of Cleopatra through Marie Antoniette’s to then get to Lady Diana, the royals from all over the world dictated the rules of style by wearing garments that have become iconic. We owe the invention of underwear to Catherine de Medici, queen of France, and that of the anti-cellulite bands to princess Sissi. Today, the heirs of the great noble families continue this fashion tradition through posts on Instagram, advertising campaigns for the various brands, or by creating their own personal collections. From Italy to England, from Greece to France, the millennial princesses are the new fashion celebs.

THE BONACCORSI SISTERS ARE PRINCESSES OF SICILY, DESIGNERS AND ENTREPRENEURS

About thirty years ago, the marriage between the Milanese designer Luisa Beccaria, descendant of the family of Alessandro Manzoni, and the Sicilian prince Lucio Bonaccorsi of Reburdone, made Italy dream with a love story worthy of a novel. Today, the five daughters of Luisa and Lucio are entrepreneurs in the fashion system and in the food industry.

Lucilla, purple eyes, very white skin and long black hair, joined her mother as a designer in her fashion house, creating dreamlike, feminine dresses with a retro elegance, perfect for modern princesses. With her sister Lucrezia and her brother Ludovico, she has ialso created the LùBar, a restaurant/enchanted garden at the heart of Milan, where they offer revisited dishes from the Sicilian tradition, with products that come directly from the family lands in the Castelluccio fiefdom.

NOT ONLY PRINCESSES BUT ALSO DUCHESSES. THE ARRIVABENE VALENTI GONAZGA SISTERS AND THEIR BRAND OF VENETIAN SLIPPERS

from the left: Vera and Viola Arrivabene

When we talk about nobility, we talk not only about princesses, but also about duchesses, countesses and so on. The Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga sisters, Viola and Vera, are well aware of this. The young Venetian aristocrats have created their brand of slippers ViBi Venezia from the famiy palace, Palazzo Papadopoli.

Long and dark hair, tall and slender figure and a face with delicate features, the beautiful Arrivabene sisters lived between parties and castles, between the canals of Venice and the capitals of the whole world. With ViBi Venezia they brought the tradition of their city to the rest of the globe through their velvet Furlanes, which are low heel, simple and refined slippers.

THAT OF MÉLUSINE RUSPOLI IS A PRINCESSES ANCESTRY

Princess of name and in fact, the beautiful Mélusine Ruspoli belongs to one of the oldest Italian noble families, but this is just one of the many fascinating details of a character halfway between a fairy and an elf.

She’s a muse of Chanel, that dressed her for her debut in society at the Hôtel de Crillon Debutantes Ball in Paris in 2013. Mélusine dreams of a career in fashion, perhaps because of that artistic vein inherited from her father, prince Alessandro Ruspoli, actor and sex symbol who was a great friend of Brigitte Bardot and Salvador Dalì.

LADY KITTY SPENCER AND HER AUNT LADY DIANA ARE THE BEAUTIFUL AND SAD PRINCESSES OF FASHION

If in fairy tales the princesses live happily ever after, in reality this is not always the case. Figures that have become legendary like Lady Diana are an example, and her myth of beauty, charm and sadness seems to have passed directly to her niece, Kitty Spencer.
