Our Woman of the week is trans model Pêche Di, 27 years old and founder of Trans Models, New York’s first model agency for trans models, in 2015. «My company and my work is something that’s liberating, it’s something I am doing in terms of protesting», she declared in a recent interview. Pêche is fighting gender inequality: she wants trans models to have the same rights as everyone else, and most of all, she wants to work against the notion that beauty has a gender.
This beautiful activist experienced all the difficulties trans people encounter on the workplace herself, when she was fired from an ad campaign after the client discovered she was not born a woman. This was why she decided to fight back, not just for herself but for all LGBTQ models. Her small agency is growing every day, and Pêche is working hard for it to become one of the most innovative model agencies in the world. Her persistence and her beauty certainly attracted some attention, and the fashion system is starting to show interest in her and the models she represents, so much so that they were hired during the recent fashion weeks, and they were featured in i-D. National Geographic and Steven Meisel also didn’t miss their chance to collaborate with this new agency.
Pêche moved to the US in 2010 from Thailand, to study English and filmmaking, and in just a few years, she managed to be featured in Teen Vogue, and be nominated by Forbes as one of the most influential celebrities in the world. Her model career led her to be photographed by Bruce Weber for Barney’s campaign, and to be featured on the cover of Candy Magazine.
And that’s not all! This young woman also launched an app for trans dating, Teadate, and she is working on a documentary for MTV True Life.
She is lively, she has volcanic creativity, lots of character and strength, and we admire her so much here at TBS! Pêche, we are cheering for you!
