Everything you need to know about the Met Gala 2023: theme, date and much more

Between the Met Gala 2023 theme and the date on which it will take place, here’s everything you need to know ahead of one of the most pop fashion nights around the world.

It seems to be getting closer and closer to that time of the year: we’re talking about the Met Gala obv. This year’s theme has finally been announced and perhaps hasn’t been this extraordinary in a few years. But before we unveil all the answers to your questions, let’s get to the heart of the matter….

Officially it will be Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, that’s right, the Met Gala 2023 theme will pay tribute to one of the most beloved designers of the past decades. Died in February 2019 at the age of 85, Lagerfeld is considered a true visionary of our times. According to a Met release, some 150 of Karl Lagerfeld’s greatest signature creations will be showcased during the exhibition, including, of course, designs made while he worked for fashion houses such as Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, and – last certainly not least – Chanel.

The exhibition will mainly focus on the evolution of Karl’s two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional clothes, all that will be left for us to do is to observe how celebrities and designers will succeed – or if they will succeed – in interpreting this theme by translating it to perfection and especially in a contemporary key.

As you well know, during this event, a small number of well-known people are chosen to join Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the Met Gala. This year, the four icons who will sit on the coveted panel of Vogue’s Global Director will be Grammy-winning Dua Lipa, Emmy-winning actress Michaela Coel, Oscar-winning actress Penélope Cruz, and tennis superstar Roger Federer.

KARL LAGERFELD: A LINE OF BEAUTY, THAT’S THE THEME OF THE UPCOMING MET GALA ENTIRELY DEDICATED TO ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED DESIGNERS OF RECENT TIMES

Like other tribute-themes proposed a few years ago, from Rei Kawakubo to Alexander McQueen, this year’s Met Gala 2023 will celebrate fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Best known for his role as creative director of Chanel, he is still considered one of the most influential figures in fashion.
